We live our lives at an extremely fast pace, which means that finding time to put our own health, wellness and appearance first can be a challenge. Between treating patients, traveling to conferences, performing clinical research, and of course spending time with my family, I know first-hand just how hard it can be to prioritize looking and feeling your best each day. But a few small, simple tactics can go a long way, and make all of the other things going on in your life feel more manageable as a result. Here are some of my favourite beauty secrets.
If you don’t have the foundation of good skin, it’s not as easy to have a healthy and natural look. Achieving and maintaining healthy skin starts with finding the right evidence-based skin care regimen, and sticking with it over time.
If you’re going to focus on just a few clinical treatments, choose things that will help to enhance your complexion. I personally really like IPL and Clear + Brilliant, which I do about every four months.
On an especially important day, when you want to look your very best, consider using an extra application of SkinMedica’s HA5 before applying makeup. It can help to smooth and reduce fine lines. Using extra moisturizer can also help your makeup look more luminous, which is great for times when you anticipate being photographed.
This rule of thumb applies to everything from your wardrobe to your corrective treatments.
One thing I love to do is to take the stress out of my morning by making wardrobe decisions the night before. Especially when you’re travelling, stick with what you know works — your best ensembles that make you feel most confident — and pack fairly light so that you aren’t overwhelmed with choices.
When you’re contemplating corrective or beautification procedures, this is equally important. Avoid last-minute injectable treatments within a couple of weeks of any major event, in case there is residual bruising, swelling or any need for touch ups.
There are a few other things I always keep in mind when it comes to streamlining my beauty routine. First, I highly recommend splurging and letting a professional style your hair. It looks better, it lasts longer and you can spend that time working or getting through other items on your to-do list.
Regarding makeup specifically, I’m always an advocate of keeping it simple and classic. There are of course times to be more dramatic, but in general erring on the side of natural allows your inner vitality to shine through, enabling you to feel even more confident in your appearance.
These are just a few of the things I do to maintain a flawless look that doesn’t require a lot of energy.
