In American’s Society for Dermatological Science’s 2015 2015 consumer survey, 67 percent of respondents listed fat under the chin and neck among most troubling conditions. “Those struggling with submental fullness (aka double chin) are no longer limited to surgical solutions. There are other cures for the double chin,” says Dr Shannon Humphrey.
There has been a pivot in trend related to cosmetic procedures. Those wishing to avoid a surgical recovery and downtime due to procedures like face lifts for example, have opted for minimally invasive treatments like Belkyra. Minimally invasive procedures saw a 158% increase in 2015 (according to the American Society of Plastic Surgeons). With advances in cosmetic medicine submental fullness, like crow’s feet, can now be treated by injection.
“Treatment of submental fat has become one of the more popular procedures among our male patients,” says Dr Katie Beleznay. The American Society for Aesthetic Plastic Surgery reported that men underwent more than one million non-surgical treatments in 2014 and represented 9.4 percent of all cosmetic procedures in 2015.
