Instagram has taken more brave steps to improving how its double-tap algorithms are impacting our emotional and mental wellbeing — and this time it’s hitting close to home.

Our team couldn’t be happier about this change. While we’re grateful for the positive benefits of social media — including the ability to better connect and share with our patients — we’re very wary of its downsides. Last year we wrote about perception drift, a shifting benchmark of “normal” as aesthetic changes impact your happiness with other physical features. Instagram, and other social channels, have the very real power of influencing our perceptions of reality and our sense of self. That’s why we couldn’t be happier that they’ve removed potentially harmful face filter options.
