All Things Décolletage

Dr. Humphrey has been in New Jersey a couple times this summer — wondering why? She’s been working with other industry leaders on some initiatives for the science of décolletage treatments.

What is décolletage?

Décolletage refers to the upper anterior chest, including the upper aspect of the breast. The skin in this area is especially fragile, and very commonly exposed to the sun, making it prone to wrinkles and deep lines and pigmentation as exposed by a low cut shirt.

How can you protect it?

There are a number of preventative and restorative ways you can protect the décolletage from these signs of damage.

  • If your neckline has brown spots or redness from excessive sun exposure, Intense Pulsed Light (IPL) can help to even out these areas and restore your natural skin tone.
  • Clear+Brilliant works hand-in-hand with IPL to brighten your skin by reducing pigment and stimulating collagen production, resulting in a youthful, revitalized glow.
  • Microneedling, a relatively new treatment, stimulates collagen production, encouraging skin to regain its original vibrancy and reducing fine lines.
  • Heat-based Thermage tightens and subtly lifts the skin, while Sculptra stimulates collagen production. Together, these treatments erase lines and create smoother, more supple skin.

Dr. Humphrey’s #1 tip

“A lot of our bad habits can contribute to necklace lines and other signs of décolletage aging — like craning our necks to look at our cell phones all day. One small thing you can do to protect this fragile region of skin is to sleep on your back. It will help to prevent sleep creases in both the décolletage and the face.”
