3 Beauty Products Dr. Humphrey Would Take to a Desert Island

You’ve likely asked a doctor what they would do if they were in your shoes. It’s one of the most common questions I get. So often when I’m advising my patients on a combination treatment program, or new at-home skincare regimen, they want to know what I use to feel my best.

I thought I would have some fun with this, and talk about the three beauty products I would take with me to a desert island — my absolute musts.

Now I know you’re probably thinking that sunscreen is no doubt at the top of my list. But in my eyes, sunscreen isn’t a beauty product; it’s an everyday skincare fundamental. If I were going to pack sunscreen among my three allotted beauty products, I would take ColoureScience Sunforgettables — for its ease of use and flexibility, or Neutrogena Ultra Sheer Stick — for its staying power, even through the sweatiest workouts. But, since I’m not counting sunscreen towards my beauty product limit, that still leaves me room to pack three more things...

  1. Organic coconut oil
The first thing I would pack is organic coconut oil. Coconut oil is incredibly versatile; it can be a moisturizer, a lip gloss, even a cuticle lubricant. It smells great, it’s relaxing and it has anti-inflammatory and antibacterial properties. It’s a no brainer.
  2. A favourite fragrance
Next up, I would make space for a special fragrance. To me, a fragrance is a little slice of relaxation, self-indulgence and self-care. It brings me so much pleasure, and boosts my mood. Some of my favourites include Byredo’s Bibliothèque, Bal d’Afrique and Gypsy Water.
  3. Latisse for my lashes
Assuming I’m not taking any makeup to this desert island, I’m going to want something on hand to help me feel my best — and what’s better than thick, dark, natural-looking lashes and brows to give you a sense of polish even when you’re going makeup-free? Latisse would be the final must-have beauty product on my desert island packing list.
